Door Shielding - Self-adhesive Panels

$2,705.76

Self-adhesive shielded door panels are an excellent alternative to purchase and installation of new lead-lined doors for low level shielding applications.  When the shielding requirement is only 1/64 - 1/32", our adhesive lined panels are an economical choice.  Anyone can laminate these to the back of the door with the peel and stick backing.  They are lead-free and have a fire resistant and impact resistant surface which will provide for a lifetime of use.

Standard shielding thicknesses are 0.8mm Pb (1/32") and 0.5mmPb (>1/64").  Each set consists of 4 panels sized to fit the specified door.  The panels are easily installed one next to the other, and will stay permanently adhered to the door even in the most aggressive environments.

These adhesive shielding panels are most commonly used as an alternative to lead-lined doors in dental, chiropractic, podiatry, veterinary and similar healthcare practices.  Hospitals and other medical facilities which required 1/16" lead eq. doors or greater (such as PET and CT Scan rooms) normally find that lead doors are the preferred choice.

The amount of shielding required should be determined by a licensed health physicist.

Why choose these self-adhesive panels instead of buying a lead-lined door?

  1. Lower total installed cost.  You can reduce the cost of materials by 20-50%
  2. No construction headaches or downtime.  No need to remove your existing door.  These panels can be fastened to the back of the existing door by almost anyone!
  3. Easy, fast, low/no cost shipping.  New doors must ship on a pallet using a freight carrier.  This can cost $500-1000, and will require a forklift to unload the truck.  Our 4-pack of adhesive panels ships by standard UPS ground.  Shipping is included "free" for all domestic orders in the continental US.
  4. NO LEAD.  These panels are lead-free.  Bismuth is used as the primary shielding metal.  Bismuth and lead have very similar shielding effect against radiation.

  • The optional pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) provides for a peel & stick format for fast & simple application in almost any environment.
  • The PSA is a high-strength 3M pressure sensitive adhesive with a polycoated Kraft liner.

Adhesive Shielding Panel Sizes

The actual door size is actually slightly different than the nominal door size, since doors must have clearance to swing open.  For standard commercial doors, dimensions are reduced by 15/32" on the width and 5/8" on the height. The below table provides details of door and panel sizes.  Each door panel kit includes 4 panels to cover the full door height.  If your door measures slightly different, you can provide exact measurements and we can make the adjustment in your panel sizes.

Nominal Size  Door Width (in)   Door Height (in)  Panel Height (in)
30in x 80in 29.53 79.38 19.84
36in x 80in 35.53 79.38 19.84
42in x 80in 41.53 79.38 19.84

Handleset Bore Option

Standard Handleset Bore is a 2-1/8" Hole (54mm) with a 2-3/4" Backset (60mm).  WE offer this service as an add-on option.  However, the hole is easy to bore with a standard door bore kit, available for $20 from any hardware store.

If you choose to have us include the bore, you will receive a email requesting confirmation of the handleset location.  US Construction Codes allow for handles to be located between 34' and 48" height (from floor).  Most installations are between 36"-40".  The exact location of the handleset is important for completion of the panel set if you choose to have us pre-bore the hole.
