TECHNICAL DATA

This transparent radiation shielding is made from a plastic sheet, consisting of a methacrylate resin that contains lead to provide X-ray shielding. The shielding material results in a slight yellow tint in the window. Each ½” thick sheet provides a shielding equivalent of 0.5mm of Pb.

This transparent acrylic radiation shielding can be custom machined to meet the needs of your application or equipment.

Specifications

Storage & Handling

•    Upon receipt, carefully remove Acrylic Shielding from packaging to inspect for damage during shipment.
•    Both sides will be protected by low-tack masking tape to prevent being scratched during handling.  Do not remove masking until ready to place in service.
•    Acrylic is very soft and porous and can readily absorb chemicals that will tarnish or stain it, such as oils, acids or alkaline based liquids or cleaners.  Never expose to acids, alkalis or humid environments.
•    Wipe fingerprints and smudges immediately off with a soft and clean, dry cloth. Perspiration, oil, fatty acids and grease from fingerprints left on the acrylic may cause permanent marks and tarnishing.
•    If transporting by forklift or other mechanical means, take care to avoid scratching, chipping or cracking.
•    Always lift material.  Do not slide.
•    Acryilc panels should be stored horizontally on a flat, rigid, stable surface.
•    Pieces of corrugated cardboard or rigid foam should be placed between each sheet if stacking multiple sheets.
•    Avoid temperature extremes or high humidity during storage.

Installation

•    Use very clean, non-slip protective gloves when handling heavy or sharp material.
•    Always wear eye protection when handling.
•    Never “table-top” or hold flat or horizontally. Keep vertical, secured, and upright for strength.
•    Do not put uneven pressure, twist or bind.
•    Never “bump” or rub against another surface it is very fragile and may easily break, eggshell, chip or scratch.
•    Install stops carefully with even and firm pressure, never hard or tight pressure. Be sure frame stops do not “pinch” the material.
•    Do not use sealant or caulking that contains acid or alkaline agents.
•    Do not apply tape or labels as material may stain in reaction to adhesive.
•    Do not use knives or sharp tools.

Instructions for Use
•    Transparent Lead Acrylic Radiation Shielding is intended only for indoor use.
•    Acrylic panels should not be used in environments where they can be exposed to harsh chemicals.

Cleaning
•    Wipe lightly with a clean and soft, dry microfiber or cotton cloth.
•    Smudges or dirt not removed by wiping with dry microfiber or cotton cloth can be cleaned by applying distilled water to a cloth, but must be immediately wiped dry with a clean, soft dry microfiber or cotton cloth.
•    Never use abrasive cleaning agents, acids or alkalis or solvents.

Alternative Cleaning Methods
•    May be cleaned with diluted mild soap solution in water (sodium lauryl sulfate based, no dyes or fragrances).
•    May be disinfected with Chloramine-T Trihydrate or a Pro-Quaternary disinfectant (octyl decyl dimethyl ammonium chloride)
•    Cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol (70%) or hydrogen peroxide solution (1.4%) may also be acceptable, however these cleaners should only be used to carefully wipe the acrylic with a non-abrasive cloth.  These cleaners should not be ‘pooled’ on the acrylic or be used to soak the acrylic.
